Rosemary Wells in 3D
SOFTWARE
Maya (Arnold Renderer, Toon Shader), Substance Designer

During my time at SVA I had the opportunity to create my own independent study during my junior year. The goal of the course was to do a deep dive into Substance Designer, become more familiarized with node-based workflows, and further develop my eye for shaders and textures. i decided to try and emulate Rosemary Wells' (Bunny Cakes, Max's Dragon Shirt) unique illustrative style, not only because I'm a huge fan of her work but also because I thought it would be a unique challenge to create such stylized procedural textures. My biggest concern, other than digesting the program, was emulating the illustrative line work of Wells' work, but the solution was as simple as adding a bump to the outline component of the toon shader. Special thanks to my research advisor Jordan Harvey!

The uneven strokes and watercolor texture were crucial to staying true to Wells' work!
